BC Lupus Society Privacy Policy

Effective January 1, 2004

As of January 1, 2004, British Columbia’s new Personal Information Protection Act will govern the collection, use and disclosure of personal information. The Act applies to all BC businesses and societies. To ensure we comply with the legislation, we have reviewed our procedures and prepared this policy.

The BC Lupus Society (BCLS) values and respects the privacy of our members, donors and the public. We are committed to keeping your personal information secure and we will take all the required steps to ensure we safeguard the personal information entrusted to us.

What is Personal Information?

Personal information identifies a specific individual. It includes such items as name, contact information, gender or age. The BCLS is trusted with personal information from our members, donors and other individuals. In general, the personal data maintained by the BCLS is limited to name, address, telephone and email address. We understand the private nature of this information and promise to limit its collection, use and disclosure to the appropriate purpose for which it was gathered.

Collection and Use of Personal Information

The personal information which you share with us will be used to manage your membership, provide you with income tax receipts and distribute our newsletter, The Lupus Lighthouse. Such information will not be sold, traded or rented to any other organization. Occasionally, the BC Lupus Society will communicate special members’ offers or information regarding our programs that we think may be of interest to you. If you do not wish to receive targeted communications from us in electronic or printed format (other than information related to the administration of your membership), simply inform us in writing.
