WALK A BLOCK

JOIN THOUSANDS OF CANADIANS who will be walking in May for the 8th Annual Walk a Block for Lupus to raise money for lupus research and programs. Don't want to Walk? You can Run, Golf, Bicycle... JUST DO IT FOR LUPUS!

WHAT IS IT?
May 10th marks the 7th annual World Lupus Day. Walks and other events will be held worldwide to generate awareness of lupus and raise funds for research and programs. We are celebrating World Lupus Day with our 9th annual Walk a Block for Lupus, and we invite each of our members to join us. Our goal this year is to raise $60,000 in BC and we need your help. Many Walks will be held tduring the month of May. You can hold your own walk at any time in May or June..

HOW CAN I GET INVOLVED?

Walk as an Individual
Do you have a daily walk? Do you enjoy walking in your neighbourhood? You set the route based on your ability, select a date and time that suits you, and ask family and friends to sponsor you.

Walk in a Small Group
Are you part of a walking club? Do you have a group of friends that would walk with you? Ask your friends to join you in collecting pledges and select a date and time to walk that suits you.

Be A Part of, or Organize a Larger Event
Check the right side for walks happening in communities around BC. If your community is not listed, you can offer to help organize a walk. Call the Lupus Society office 604.714.5564 or 1.866.585.8787 for more information on how this can be done or visit the Lupus Walk A Block website (walkablock.ca)

REASONS TO WALK A BLOCK FOR LUPUS

1. I have lupus, and I am walking to raise money to increase awareness and find a cure through research.
2. I love someone who has lupus, and I am walking to show my support.
3. I know someone who has lupus (over 6,000 people in BC may have lupus), and I am walking to support their hope of a cure.
4. I want to make a better life for people living with lupus through my caring support.
5. I can make a difference.

HOW DO I COLLECT PLEDGES?

Download a pledge form. Cheques are made payable to Lupus Canada, and the form and cheques are returned to the BC Lupus Society office. Additional pledge forms can be downloaded from this webpage. Tax receipts will be issued for pledges of $20.00 or more by Lupus Canada.

Register online through the Lupus Walk A Block website walkablock.ca When your supporters make donations online with their credit cards, they will receive a tax receipt within minutes. If you are walking, you can register online if you are a member of a team or if you are walking as an individual.

Donations can also be made using the enclosed pledge form to support the Walk a Block for Lupus Campaign in British Columbia. Tax receipts will be issued for amounts or $20 or more by Lupus Canada.

LETS HAVE FUN

  • Challenge others in your walking group to see who can get the most pledges.
  • Chat with people you meet en route about lupus.
  • Ask your favourite coffee shop if they will pledge you and donate a cup of coffee after the Walk.
  • Get together after your Walk for a social event.
  • Remember this can be simple and stress-free!
  • Be creative. How about organizing a “Play A Round for Lupus” at a golf course. Sponsors could pay $1, $2, $5 or $10 for every stroke you are below 100.
